Goddess Alakshmi

Alakshmi is a deity who is known to be the Goddess of Misfortune, Discord and Broken Items in Hindu cosmology. As such, she is often depicted as an older looking woman draped in off-white robes who rides on a wooden cart filled with broken items. The broken items are what Alakshmi holds closest to her heart because she can see the beauty in everything. Especially that of everyone else considers to be ‘impure’. She is also known to be the twin-sister of the Goddess of Prosperity, Lakshmi.

As Alakshmi is associated with Misfortune, Alakshmi is a great being to ask for help when it comes to understanding why such events occur in one’s life. No matter how well things may be planned out for anyone and everyone, there is always a chance that something can go wrong. This is where Alakshmi can help all who ask her to identify why such a thing has happened.

Alakshmi can also help everyone to understand why Discord and Disharmony has come about in their lives by understanding the cause of this. Be it personally influenced or something that is external and uncontrollable by the individual experiencing this event. It is Alakshmi’s wish to help all who experience these things.

In order to help, something that Alakshmi does well is showing everyone how even that which is broken can be repaired and filled with beauty. Within the cart that she rides, Alakshmi has so many items that have been given new life by filling the cracks with Love. In doing so, the broken items have a new life about them that is like a mosaic.

Whilst Alakshmi holds each of her roles close to her heart, she respects everyone’s Free Will and as such will not act unless one asks for the help. As such, a prayer is an ideal way to ask for her and God’s help. An example of a prayer that can be utilised is:

‘Dearest God and Alakshmi, please help me to understand all misfortune, Discord and Disharmony, so that I may go on my journeys way, understanding and filling the broken areas of my life with Love. For this, I give thanks. Amen.’

A simple, yet very effective in bringing forth their assistance and help. Though it is very important to always remember to give thanks for all that they do.

Despite Misfortune, Discord and Disharmony dampening the mood of anyone experiencing such things, it is important to remember that anyone and everyone can call upon Alakshmi and God at any time. No matter how small the request may seem, both Alakshmi and God will always help.
